MotoGP 2015: Backstage the TT Assen

TrackandTuner.com goes backstage the MotoGP during the 2015 TT of Assen. Next to being huge auto sport fanatics we are a big fan of motorsports too. With the MotoGP as the ultimate stage of motorsport racing. A couple of years ago we already went backstage the MotoGP this year we went back again. Thanks to Bridgestone it was possible to meet our here Valentino Rossi close up. Just before the qualification session he took his time to meet the fans and autograph phones, t-shirts, hats and many more. It’s not difficult to see why he is the most popular rider ever in the MotoGP. After a nice lunch in the Bridgestone hospitality area we walked across the paddock. Seeing Capirossi live for the Italian television and many other riders.

After our walk we were invited to look in the pit with Cal Crutchlow and Jack Miller with Honda racing. A nice experience seeing the bikes up close and the riders focusing on the qualifying session. Funny to see that Cal Crutchlow goes on his bike so rapidly when the session begins. Both Jack Miller and Cal Crutchlow seemed very relaxed before qualifying.

In the qualifying session it was very close between the Yamaha and Honda boys. With only two fresh tires it’s essential to push and get the most out of your run. With just minutes to go Valentino Rossi sets the quickest lap on the Dutch and famous track. This time was even too much for Marc Marquez and Rossi celebrated with a wheelie along the main straight.

With Assen being the only track in the world with race day on a Saturday (next year it will be Sunday) it was time to race. With the rides like Laverty, Bradl and the Ducati boys entering the paddock we were ready for an EPIC race. Everybody again looking for Rossi and Lorenzo giving some interviews. Time to race, and what a great race. Marquez and Rossi where both incredibly fast the whole weekend and also in the race. With Marquez looking the entire race for an overtake in the last GT chicane. This happened in the last lap. We were right on top of the action where a late braking Marquez just touched Rossi putting him in the dirt. However Rossi opened the throttle and went through the dirt and finished first. Marquez wasn’t expecting that, nor did the crowds, which went completely crazy cheering for their idol Rossi.
