Project Car BMW e30 S54 Engine: Time for Paint S1E2

As you might have seen, we have taken upon us, a massive challenge to create our dream BMW e30.

It all started with a bad looking base car, as you can see here.

A very rough example of a BMW e30, already fitted with a BMW M3 e46 S54 engine and gearbox. While the mechanics were about 75% done, the exterior was in bad shape.

As you can see we have completely stripped it, all the way back to the chassis. Removing everything from the dashboard, electronics, steering wheel, absolutely everything.

As you can see for such an oldtimer, the chassis and components where is a pretty good shape. We have not found any rust or big parts needed to be replaced. So that was a big relieve, as you don't know what to expect when taking it all apart.

Everything now has been removed and stored away for the rebuild.

As said we have great plans with the car, building it up, literally from the ground up!

Next stop is the bodyshop for a fresh new paint job. So what color should be pick? A very difficult question when you start with a blank canvas. We have thought about new BMW colors, like Yas Marina Blue, Phoenix Yellow or even Java green. But we think this is too much.

We wanted something period correct, a color originally from BMW in that same era.  That is why we have chosen to go with the unique BMW jet black color. This color was only found on the BMW M3 e30 Evo II.

Together with a red interior this Black should make it a really classic.

Tell us down below if we should pick a different color, or what you would do?
